Proudly sponsored by Dunpark, the Edinburgh Accies “BATs” under 15 squad achieved extraordinary success on their recent tour to the Lake District, where they won both of their matches against strong opposition.
The team’s first match was against Hawcoat Park RFC where BATs faced a squad more accustomed to playing Rugby League than Union. BATs played some excellent rugby and came out on top to win 28 – 12 with strong performances from all the squad and vice-captain Rory Jackson being awarded man of the match.
The following day the boys continued their winning streak, taking on Kirkby Lonsdale RFC and securing an impressive 45-0 victory. Another outstanding performance from the squad, with winger Max Blacklock being made man of the match. This was a great way to end the tour, and the welcoming atmosphere of both clubs and their fantastic hospitality made the it an immensely enjoyable experience for both the players and parents alike.
The whole squad performed at the highest level in both matches but special mention must be made of Hamish McMillan, who was an inspirational captain, and Harry Paterson who finished the tour with a 100% conversion rate, kicking the ball over from both touch lines and proving how important a good kicker is to any team.
This talented group of boys who make up the U15 side have now gone five seasons without a defeat, many of them playing together in this squad since the age of 5. BATs is a great opportunity for those interested in Rugby to take their game to the next level, bringing together children from a variety of schools across Edinburgh. BATs takes Rugby beyond the school yard and gives children from different backgrounds a chance to play rugby together promoting “Rugby for all – in the North Edinburgh community”.
Last season the team had an opportunity to travel south for their first tour where they won 4 out of 4 matches in York and the North Yorkshire area.
Energised from this most recent tour success, the U15 squad (who also make up a large part of the BATs U16 squad) have their final match of the season; the U16 Regional Bowl Final against Livingston. The fixture is due to take place on Friday 29th April.
Everyone at Dunpark wishes the boys the best for their big match!
